Halloween: The Game PC Settings: Keybinds, FPS, Resolution
Keybinds are not locked, the profile is
Two separate Steam threads on 5 September (“KEYBINDS?”, 5 replies, and “How do I change the Keybinds????”) assumed rebinding was impossible. The reply that settled it: open Bindings and change the profile from Default to Custom A or Custom B. Only a custom profile lets you edit individual keys, including push-to-talk, which the second thread was trying to move. There are two custom slots.
FPS: the desktop resolution workaround
The most replied performance thread (“FPS TEMPORARY FIX”, 10 replies) explains the cause: the game ships with windowed display modes only, so it renders at whatever your Windows desktop resolution is. On a 4K desktop that means a native 4K render regardless of the in-game slider position.
The workaround:
- Set the Windows desktop to 1080p (or the resolution you want to play at) before launching.
- Launch the game.
- Raise the in-game resolution slider and use DLAA or upscaling from there.
The thread’s author reports a steady 60 fps at high settings this way; another reply says it “runs like garbage” on Steam Deck, which matches the SSD/NVMe requirement and the lack of a Deck rating on the system requirements page.
The light switch has no label
“Lights on/off” (4 replies): there is no on/off text on house light switches. Switch up is on, down is off, and the room visibly brightens when on. This matters because Michael cannot Shape Jump in light; see the civilian guide.
Executions not changing
“cant change weapon execution”: selecting a different execution in the weapon customisation menu did not change the kill for one player. The reply explains that finishers need a fully stalked (level 3) target approached from behind, or a downed target after a delay; weapon executions are separate from the default grab kill. Whether the menu selection is bugged in Early Access was not resolved in the thread.
Deluxe content not unlocked
The most replied early-access thread of all (8 replies). Some players who bought Deluxe found the Inmate skin and the two extra Civilians missing. Verify the game cache in Steam was the suggestion that worked for some. IllFonic had not replied when this page was written; the editions page lists exactly what should be there.
Crash on campaign start
Reported on 5 September for the campaign specifically while lobby games load fine. No fix was posted in the thread. This page is updated when IllFonic’s day-one patch notes appear.
Thanks for the feedback!
